Ghana Reaffirms Commitment to Tackling Transnational Crime and Corruption

Vienna, 23 June 2025 – Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling transnational crime and corruption through a series of high-level meetings with directors of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna. Led by Ghana’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Vienna, H.E. Matilda Alomatu Osei-Agyeman, the Ghanaian delegation engaged with senior UNODC officials to strengthen cooperation on organized crime, cyber threats, anti-corruption, and capacity-building.

UNODC praised Ghana’s leadership and pledged continued technical support for its swift adoption and implementation. Discussions also focused on Ghana’s proactive role in international review mechanisms and the importance of national ownership and sustainable investment in crime prevention.

The meetings addressed emerging threats, including cybercrime, with UNODC supporting Ghanaian law enforcement through digital investigation tools and public awareness campaigns. Regional cooperation on firearms trafficking and environmental crime was also emphasized, with Ghana recognized as a leader in these areas.

On anti-corruption, Ghana’s achievements in asset recovery and public procurement reforms were commended, alongside ongoing technical assistance and preparations for showcasing progress at upcoming international conferences.

The engagements underscore Ghana’s position as a regional leader in building resilient institutions and its evolving partnership with UNODC towards greater national ownership and capacity-building.
