Applicants can visit the Mission during its consular hours to make enquiries; there is however no walk-in submission for visa and passport applications. Please note that appointments are booked online whilst completing the visa and passport application forms. Applicants for services such as provision of attestations, verification letters and Emergency Travel Certificates can attend during consular hours which are Monday to Friday, from 9am to 4pm (which are not holidays in Austria or Ghana).

We no longer provide paper copies of visa or passport forms. Applicants are required to fill in their application fully online, print, sign and post (for Visa Applications) or bring to the Mission (for Passport Applications), subject to appointment at the relevant processing office.

Kindly check your spam or junk mail folder, as some email providers may filter our messages. Should you locate an email there, mark it as “Not Spam” to ensure future correspondence reaches your inbox.

Yes, you will require a visa to travel to Ghana unless you are a National of one of the listed countries under the “Exempted Countries” list. Refer to the Visa Application terms and conditions section.

This depends on the purpose of travel. Tourist visa: for vacation or casual visits. Student visa: for educational purposes. Work visa: if employed or contracted by a company. Use the visa category schedule at Step 1 on the application form for guidance or contact the support team.

This varies by visa type. Generally, you’ll need a passport copy, passport photo, proof of payment, and supporting documents such as invitation letters or proof of funds. Refer to the terms and conditions section for additional information.

A residence or work permit will need to be uploaded for non-Austrian nationals.

Most visas require at least 6 months of passport validity from the intended date of travel. Renew your passport before applying if this condition isn't met.

Standard processing takes a minimum of five (5) business days from the time we receive your application at the Mission. Expedited service takes one (1) business day to be processed. The Mission reserves the right to hold applications for longer should further information be required from the applicant.

If application has not yet been submitted online with payment, then yes you can. If already submitted online, then no. You'll need to start a new application with the correct category or contact the live chat support team for assistance.

Child trafficking and legal custody and court order laws require that letters of consent are presented by parents/legal guardians for children under 18 years and must be signed by both parents. In events that one parent is not able/available/eligible to give consent, please tick the appropriate reason on the consent letter with documentary evidence. Applicants are to kindly download and use the official consent form which appears at step 2 and at end of the visa application process.

Kindly contact the hotel to provide an email where they can be reached, should it be the official email of a department or section of the hotel or the official email of an individual in a managerial position.

Check that you have filled in all mandatory questions marked with an asterisk. Annotations in red will also appear at relevant parts of the form where corrections need to be made to enable you to move to the next step.

Please download, print and sign the visa application form. Postal applications: Submit the hard copies of your application with supporting documents including proof of payment of the return postage. Once processing is completed, your passport and documents will be mailed to you. The Mission cannot be held liable for loss of passports sent by post or courier service. Counter applications: Submit hard copies of forms and supporting documents to the Embassy in person.

You can track the status of your application by logging into your account dashboard. Status updates are posted there as your application progresses. If it’s been more than 7 business days with no update, contact live chat support with your application reference.

If Application has not yet been submitted online, you can go back to the step where the error is and correct and proceed to complete the application. If the application has already been submitted online, please contact live chat support with your application reference and a description of the correction for assistance.

Upload a standard passport size photograph taken full face on a plain background and taken within six months of the date of application without dark glasses or hat.
  • Do not photograph a printed passport photo.
  • You may take a new photo with a camera or smartphone and upload it, provided it meets the specifications: full-face view, forehead and eyes clearly visible, plain white background, and no eyewear or headgear (unless worn for religious reasons).
  • If you already have a passport-style photo, scan and upload the scan (not a photo of the photo).
Your photo appears on the issued visa sticker. If the image is blurred, incorrectly rotated, a “photo of a photo,” or otherwise does not meet the specifications published on our website, we will request a replacement. Submitting a non-compliant photo will delay visa processing.

Make sure your photo meets the required format (jpeg/jpg) and size, taken against a white background, showing your full face, forehead, and ears. No eyewear or headgear is allowed unless worn for religious purposes. If you continue to have problems, contact the live chat team for assistance.

Applicant can sign digitally and upload same, sign onto a plain sheet and upload same or scan the signature you have used in your official passport. Ensure file format is jpg/jpeg.

Visa fees can be paid using the mode of payment offered by the Mission. Payment details are during the application process. Mode of Payment can also be found on the Visa Application Information page.

In line with existing statutory directives, applicants are informed that all Consular fees are non-refundable once paid. This policy also includes payments made for incomplete and/or withdrawn applications.

Yes, respond to email received to reschedule at least 48 hours in advance.

Please log into your application account to check the status of your application. Should there still be no update, after five (5) working days of application being received at the Mission, you can contact the live chat support team with your application reference number for further assistance.

The Mission does not offer Expedited Service for Passports currently.

To apply, go to the Passport Application tab, create an account, and complete the online form. You will need to:
  • Pay the application fee online.
  • Book an appointment for your in-person biometric capture.
  • Provide a prepaid, self-addressed return envelope with tracking.

At your appointment, you must bring:
  • Your printed and signed application form.
  • An Austrian-issued ID, if available (e.g., Austrian passport, Residence Permit, or driver’s license).
  • A prepaid, self-addressed return envelope with tracking.
You will also need two guarantors and one professional witness who meet the eligibility criteria. Additional documents may be required if your passport has been lost, stolen, damaged, or if you are applying due to a change of name. Please see the Passport Information page for the complete list of requirements.

The witness must:
  • Be a professional who knows you in any of the following fields; Armed Forces, Prison Services, Police Service, Civil/Public Servant, Registered Medical Practitioner, Solicitor/Barrister, Head of Educational Institution, any other registered recognised professional or Ghana National Association Chairman/ Secretary.
  • Should have known you for at least 2 years
  • Should be a Ghanaian (resident in Austria)
  • Be available should they need to be contacted by the Mission
  • Sign your application form
  • Cannot be the same as your Guarantor

Your guarantors must be at least 18 years old, have known you for a minimum of 2 years, and can be relatives. They may live in either Austria or Ghana. In some cases, the Mission may prefer Austrian-based guarantors, but this will be confirmed when you attend your in-person appointment.

Please allow between 6 to 8 weeks from the time of having your biometrics captured for processing your passport.

Yes. All applicants, including children, must attend their scheduled appointment in person.

Payment can be made Online using a debit or credit card. CASH is NOT ACCEPTED at the Consulate/ Mission under any circumstance.
